You Can Feel The Difference with Tom Schlachter

“EAB’s reputation in our industry has set the bar high. I have spent my years at EAB working to provide the best possible service to our clients.” – Thomas Schlachter

Thomas Schlachter is a Senior Project Manager in Engineered Air Balance’s Dallas office.

Prior to joining EAB in 1982 as a field technician, he earned his Mechanical Engineering Degree from Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana. He is certified by the Associated Air Balance Council as a TBE – Test and Balance Engineer and received his Texas Professional Engineers license in 1993. Tom served as the instructor for our in-house training program from 1998-2006. His work experience is extensive, ranging from schools, commercial offices, universities, airports, hospitals, laboratories, thermal energy plants and vivariums. Each of these areas he has performed the testing & balancing, sensor verification and control sequence verification.

Today, Tom’s duties include plan and submittal review for balance-ability, observations, assisting with project coordination and commissioning activities, all the while managing multiple TAB teams. When asked about his time at EAB Tom said,

“After 39 years, I have come to the same conclusion each year that I have it pretty good. I feel appreciated; I enjoy the people I work with. The work I do has the ability to positively affect the lives of others. I am part of something that is bigger than myself, and I enjoy mentoring others to carry on the EAB Way.”

Tom is active in ASHRAE and is currently the Chairman of Technical Committee TC 7.07 “Testing, Adjusting and Balancing”, a current and/or past member of committees involved with Field Testing HVAC Controls, Fan Coil Testing and Fan Coil Energy usage.

Milestone Projects

Spanning 25 years, one of Thomas’ most significant projects was the new construction of the UT Southwestern Medical Center North Campus. His roles included Lead Technician, Project Manager, and Senior Project Manager. Totaling over one million square feet, the UT Southwestern Medical Center is the largest medical school in the state of Texas. These buildings were significant in that they encompass almost every type of HVAC system and control sequence available in our industry. The quality of construction set the standard for all other new and existing remodel projects on this campus. To this day, Engineered Air Balance is the sole TAB contractor on this campus thanks in large part to the quality and integrity of Tom’s work. While much of Tom’s career is associated with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, he also played a valuable role in developing lasting relationships with University of Texas at Dallas and Children’s Medical Center.
